For those living in the Old World, visiting Ft. Meade’s small post museum to see the ultimate World War I heavy tank, besides the TOG II*, would be a bit of a trip. As mentioned the Mark VIII was an Anglo-American project and before it was cancelled due to lack of war, Britain produced six. One of these was kept at Bovington Camp, where Britain trains it’s tankers to this day, and became part of the Bovington Tank Museum.
Beside the paint job, the British Mark VIII is almost identical to its American cousin. The main difference lies in its Ricardo power plant and machine gun armament.
The Tank Museum is by far one of the finest tank museums in the world and will be the subject of a future article.
