About

David Krigbaum
His work has appeared in Pacific Historic Parks’ Remembrance, Friends of the Tank Museum’s Track Links, Stripes Japan, and the National Museum of the Pacific War’s scholar series. His Teenage Life on the Japanese Home Front exhibit was displayed at the National Museum of the Pacific War in 2023. The latest windmill he’s been tilting at is creating early 20th century Japanese miniatures as Sakuragi Miniatures.

Before settling in Japan, he was stationed around Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific. He is an Iraq War veteran and spent most of his 22 year U.S. Navy career overseas, taking advantage of his locations to see as much of the world as possible and learn about history. He retired in 2023 and currently resides in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, with his wife, Emi.

I’ve lived, studied, and worked in the Tokyo/Yokohama area for about 11 years. Like my similarly named friend, I am also an American, though I have spent most of my time as an ex-pat in and around Asia. I’ve visited eleven countries and two U.S. protectorates. Then I went to college to get a communications degree, where I added photography to my long list of hobbies. Other hobbies include cooking, playing the guitar, writing, and exploring interesting, lesser known parts of Japan. I currently work as an English teacher at a small school in a smaller coastal city an hour outside of Tokyo. And I speak mediocre Japanese. Kind of.
